Where is my invoice data stored?

Entirely in your browser. Your own details, logo, and recent clients are saved to your device's localStorage and never transmitted to our servers — we literally don't have a database. When you download the PDF it's generated in-browser too. Clearing your browser data (or using the 'Clear saved data' button) wipes everything.

What tax rate does this use?

US sales tax varies by state (and in some cases by county or city), so we default to 0% and leave the rate editable. If you charge sales tax, enter the combined rate that applies to the service and the client's location. Business-to-business services are often exempt but rules differ by state — check your state's department of revenue for the specifics.

What about 1099 reporting?

US clients who pay an independent contractor $600 or more in a calendar year must issue a Form 1099-NEC by January 31 of the following year. This tool doesn't file 1099s, but the invoice captures everything you'll need to reconcile at year-end (date, amount, your Tax ID). Include your EIN (or SSN if you're a sole proprietor without an EIN) in the 'Tax ID' field if your client needs it.

Can I add my own logo?

Yes — upload a PNG or JPG and it'll appear in the invoice header and PDF. The image is stored locally in your browser, not uploaded anywhere. Keep logo files under about 1 MB for best performance.

Does the invoice number auto-increment?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The number you enter is remembered in your browser, and the next invoice will suggest the next number up. You can always override it manually if you prefer a custom scheme (date-based, client-based, sequential with a prefix, etc).

Is this suitable for business or tax filings?

The invoice includes every standard field (invoice number, dates, line items, subtotal, tax, total, payment terms, and notes) and outputs a clean PDF ready to send. It's perfectly fine for freelance and small-business invoicing. It is not a substitute for accounting software for bookkeeping or tax returns — for that you'd want FreshBooks, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar.
